Trying a new studio comes with questions.
What do I bring? Where do I check in? Am I supposed to know how that machine works?
You don’t need to have everything figured out before walking into Pilates by Ashtyn. Your first visit is a chance to meet the team, learn the movement, and get comfortable in the space.
Here’s what to expect at our Columbus and Westerville studios.
First, choose a beginner-friendly class
Our signature Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates classes both welcome beginners.
Mat Pilates introduces foundational movement using your body weight and, depending on the class, props. Reformer Pilates introduces those foundations using the resistance and support of the reformer.
Want extra guidance with the machine? Intro to Reformer is designed for clients with zero to three Reformer classes. Check the current schedule for availability.
For your first few visits, we recommend waiting on Power, Spicy, and Reformer Cardio formats while you become familiar with the foundations and PBA’s teaching style.
You can compare the options on our class types page.
Bring water and grip socks
Grip socks are required for every PBA class. Don’t have a pair? They’re available to purchase in the studio.
Bring a water bottle, too. We provide mats, props, reformers, and the equipment needed for class.
Wear workout clothes that let you move comfortably. More fitted clothing can make it easier for your instructor to see your alignment, but feeling comfortable matters.
Arrive about 10 minutes early
Check in at the front desk when you arrive. Our team will greet you and walk you through what you need to know.
If you’re taking Reformer, we’ll introduce the machine before class begins. You’ll have a chance to see the carriage, springs, and straps before you start moving.
Let your instructor know it’s your first class, and share any movement concerns or limitations you want them to be aware of.
Expect guidance, a challenge, and a learning curve
PbA classes use intentional movement, anatomy-based cueing, and Pilates foundations.
Your instructor will explain movements and offer guidance as you go. You may hear unfamiliar cues or need a moment to understand an exercise. That’s part of learning.
You can ask questions. And if you prefer verbal guidance over hands-on adjustments, tell your instructor.
Choose your studio
Our Italian Village studio is at 1146 N. 4th St., Columbus, OH 43201.
Our Westerville studio is at 680 N. State St., Westerville, OH 43082.
Both locations offer Mat and Reformer Pilates.
Leave with a next step
After class, ask your instructor what they recommend trying next. It might be repeating the same format while you learn or exploring another foundational class.
You don’t need to be good at Pilates before you start. You just need a first class.
